Hungarian SYLFF Fellows Association

In January 2006, the Association of Leipzig University SYLFF Fellows (A.L.U.S.) held an international conference in Leipzig, Germany for the Central European fellows. The Hungarian fellows were represented by Csíky Balázs at this conference. The example of A.L.U.S., namely the well-functioning association urged him to organize our own local association in Hungary.
The networking of Hungarian fellows had antecedents. In October 2002 the Hungarian Academy of Sciences held a conference in Debrecen for the Hungarian fellows, and Dr. Sarnyai Csaba Máté represented Hungary at two SYLFF Africa/Europe Regional Forums (2003, 2005). Dr. Sarnyai joined also the organization of HUNS and the other co-organizer was BedÅ‘házi Zita Rozália. We submitted an application for an award under the SYLFF Network Program. The Scholarship Division has approved our proposal for the first year’s funding in July 2006.
We organized a conference with collaboration the Hungarian SYLFF Administration on 16th November 2006 in Budapest, in the central building of Hungarian Academy of Sciences, to develope networking and collaboration among Hungarian fellows. The meeting was attended by seventeen fellows and other guests. This event was also the first assembly of the HUNS.
The Hungarian SYLFF fellows was invited to two conferences in 2007. The principal organizer and Dr. Sarnyai co-organizer participated in the Prague SYLFF conference and held presentations, and participated in the 2007 Africa/Europe Regional Forum in Bochum as well. It was a great experience for us and a good occasion to became acquainted with fellows from different countries and with different backgrounds. We were able to meet again our friends.
The book of 2006 Leipzig SYLFF conference papers was published in January 2007, contained also the paper of pricipal organizer.
From September 2007 our website can be visited: http://www.sylff.hu The website informs all visitors about the goals, follow-up programs and history of SYLFF and about the activities of HUNS. In addition the website is very importamt means in the information of SYLFF fellows and all who want to apply for SYLFF fellowship.
In order to maintain the network of HUNS’ members the principal organizer created a mail group (e-mail address: sylff@lev-lista.hu) and we utilize it to provide opportunities for exchange of information and experience among Hungarian fellows and to share informations of international SYLFF family. There are more than 30 members of the mail group.
We attached importance to contact with Hungarian and international associations which work on behalf of the young scientists. We have a good collaboration with Society of Pro Scientia Gold Medalists. The principal organizer participated in the conferences of this society. These events helped to develop and maintain the cooperation.
The HUNS permits all Hungarian SYLFF fellows to be members, including fellows who are awarded the SYLFF fellowship not in Hungary. There is no membership fee. The number of our fully entitled members is 19, and there are 2 supporting members.
We have a good collaboration with the Hungarian SYLFF Administration. We cooperate with it in updating database of Hungarian SYLFF fellows.
We would like to write thank The Scholarship Division for supporting our activities with SNP awards.
